Save Them All!!

I’ve seen a fair amount of posts/memes/videos that decree the saving of all animals. None should be killed and that includes wild animals. Now I’m not going to address farmed animals cause this post isn’t about the raising and slaughtering of commercial livestock.

I’m going to address the killing of wild animals. And I’m referring to hunting for meat, not trophy hunting.

Now IF hunting were to cease, there would be an influx of very pissed off farmers. Deer herds around here and other places can grow out of control as there is plenty of available food. A herd will only thin out when the food becomes scarce. Because of the severe decline in natural predators (wolves, coyotes, and mountain lions, depending on your area) there is nothing to keep those numbers in check. Now this affects the farmers as deer love fruit and vegetables.  Deer can strip fruit trees of not only their fruit, but the bark in the winter and this can mean loss of the trees themselves due to the damage.  The loss of their crops mean produce prices increase.  Price increase in good directly affects all of us, not just the farmer.

What many of you may not know is herd populations are watched all the time. Their numbers are monitored and when there is an incline, the ministry generally offers the availability of more tags. When there is a decline, they offer less.  Moose tags for instance have been a yearly lottery. Some have applied for a tag for years to never see it as there is only a limited number available due to their specific population.

All available tags are there for a reason: control of the herds population. People don’t want wolves close to their homes so man has wiped them all but out. We (hunters) are the only thing that keeps them in check.

People may not like it but there needs to be balance. Since wolves aren’t around to handle the numbers, people have to be.

Welcome to K9HotSpot!!

A little about me, this page and why it even exists.

My name is Sandy and I’ve basically been obsessed, passionately, about all animals in general, but especially dogs since I can remember.  Our first family dog was a well trained yellow lab named Laddie.  He was a great dog and only had one little issue.  He LOVED the ladies.  I can remember Laddie’s nose hitting the air one summer day.  He looked at my dad, my dad looked at him and they both took off for the back fence.  Laddie made it there just moments before my father.  The look on his face was pure glee as he soared over that 6′ fence with ease.  The scent of a bitch in heat was the only time he ever tried (and succeeded) at leaving the yard.

From that pooch on, I was hooked.  I read everything I could, from breed standards, to conformation, training methods to husbandry.  You name it, I read it.  With that passion also came the realization that regardless of new grammar, it is not a dog’s world out there.  Every little thing can be used against all dogs and their owners.  Despite how many dogs and owners there are, we, for some reason seem to be in the minority when it comes to decisions surrounding them and us.  It seems non-dog owners are getting a much bigger say, yet they are a much smaller population…..grrr…..don’t get me started.  See, I’m digressing already.

To make a long story short, our dogs need advocates.  Folks who not only love dogs, but are passionate and knowledgeable.  We are out there, but it seems our voices are not yet heard as one collective bellow.  I’d like to see about changing that.

Some of the topics that will be covered regularly is obviously BSL, but we’ll also be touching upon some of the animal rights extremists and hoax companies such as PeTA and HSUS.  We really cannot speak loud enough about the harm and lies those two groups alone spread, but that’s for future posts.

One of the other things that will be discussed, and quite heavily, will be on demand rescues, importation of rescues from overseas and across the border.  We will also be discussing this trend of a change in terminology to make buying and selling an animal, less like buying and selling an animal, and the pitfalls of that thinking.

Hopefully, we will shed some light on the fallacies the media has spread, along with the propaganda of PeTA and HSUS.  Open some eyes on the issue of importing other countries problems when we are getting crushed by the demand of the homeless pets we already have.

We look forward to burning up the place with information and I’m sure some heated discussion along the way.

Welcome!!  🙂
